STUDIO: Rebecca Emery of One Sugar Please

Hello. I'm self-employed print designer and illustrator Rebecca Emery. In the day I create at my iMac, drink tea and tweet and blog about design, interiors and food. I'm also often found surrounded by recycled papers and cards, doilies, and my collection of vintage buttons, happily creating my handmade cards and decorations.

This is all done from my white painted study at home, where I have two distinct areas for working and crafting. The handmade element of what I do encorporates into my design work, as I like to make my illustrations using hand-cut paper shapes. I'm inspired by nature - leaf, cloud and flower shapes have featured a lot on my cards and I use wool as a material for my 'woolly button' decorations.

Over the summer, I've been designing album artwork for a singer/songwriter, logos, vintage fayre posters and event materials for a publishing company. My design work commissions can vary month by month, so it's never dull. I genuinely love what I do, and worked with some great clients. Working for myself gives me the freedom and flexibility to manage my own time effectively and most importantly, creatively.

A new venture for producing organic cotton textile designs and homewares is in the making. One of my fabric designs has just been printed so I'm aiming to take that further with a supplier soon. I'm also contemplating stepping into the world of interior design, but, in the mean time, I will be selling my handmade items a local arts fayre early November so need to get busy crafting!
