STUDIO: Amyorangejuice

This week takes a peek at the colourful works of Amyorangejuice.

I have 2 sides to my work, which is a little strange. Fisrtly, I am a glass artist, making bespoke windows for commission, gift items for galleries, craft fairs and two online shops folksy and Etsy. Secondly I am a mixed media artist, making sculptures and pictures from recycled materials, including waste stained glass. The two sides of my work do cross over and inform each other, especially as I use the waste from one business in the other.

I work around my 4 and 2 year old daughters, one in full time school the other with a childminder twice a week, I work around them so lots of late nights and working at the weekends!

I have a workshop/studio built for me by my dad on the side of the house and I tend to have several things on the go at once so that I can do some things in the house if I have the kids and others need to be done in my workshop because they involve lead and glass. I also write for creative crafting and the Folksy blog.

Current work and commissions:
MASSIVE order of Xmas stock for Atelier gallery in Barnstaple, I sell very well in this gallery and the current order due at the end of October is 30 small stained glass hearts, 12 large stained glass hearts, 50 stained glass boat mobiles and 20 brooches. I have done the hearts, I am over half way through the boat mobiles and I have just put together lots of my bottle top brooches ready to be topped with resin.

The glass items for this are made using the copper foil technique, wrapping copper foil round all the edges of the glass and then solder the joins together. I use recycled glass for these items.

I also have four window commissions on my books at present and I am currently working on a cartoon to cut the glass for a window of an angel. The client would like peacock feathers on the wings and it will be the hallway window.

The other three commissions are for a Norfolk beach scene, a large North Devon scene, a front door panel and an Edwardian house window to do after this one. So I need to get cracking!

I am making some mixed media mosaic pictures for Spinnakers Gallery in Crediton, Devon, where I exhibit this element of my work. and I am part way through a piece, using small pieces of recycled stained glass
and costume jewelery (I buy in bulk unsaleable jewellery from Devon Air Ambulance to break up for my pictures)

Last, but not least I have 2 public exhibitions pieces to work on. Firstly, I am exhibiting a piece in Exeter Cathedral along side other local artists based on our response to Mussorsky's Pictures in an Exhibition movement of music, which is being performed at the Cathedral. I am still working on the drawings for this. Secondly, I am working on an entry for a public sculpture competition for a public garden in Totnes and I am just exploring ideas for this at the moment, mostly in my head.
