OPPORTUNITIES: Internship ~ Craft Workshop Assistant for new East London Arts and Crafts Hub

Love Craft? Ever dreamt of running your own craft cafe but don’t know where to start? Well now is your chance to find out how.

The Create Place is a unique non-profit craft workshop space in Bethnal Green. We provide short courses and one off classes in a wide variety of subjects including sewing, knitting and crochet. Lead by a workshop co-ordinator and loyal band of volunteers and teachers, the project has been providing a mixture of community and private classes since November 2010. We are managed by St Margaret’s House, an independent community charity based on Old Ford Road. As we fast approach our first birthday, we are looking forward to becoming 100% self sufficient and establishing ourselves as a stand- alone social enterprise independent of any government funding.

We are currently recruiting for an intern to act as a workshop assistant, working alongside the workshop co-ordinator 3 days per week for a period of 3 months. This placement is unpaid but we will cover all travel expense (up to a maximum of £6 per day and a lunch will be provided).

The internship will provide a key support for the workshop co-ordinator learning how to set up the workshop for classes, co-ordinate teachers for classes and support with all online customer enquiries, managing the email account in the workshop co-ordinator’s absence. In return the workshop co-ordinator will teach you all about planning, promoting and running arts and crafts workshops pulling from her extensive knowledge and contacts within the industry.

There is also the opportunity for you to develop your own workshop ideas and even, over time, run your own event. Days must be flexible based on the timetables and some weekend work may be required.

The ideal candidate will have some experience working or volunteering on craft workshops and will be a keen craft enthusiast. Knowledge of social media is preferred but not essential. Above all, the chosen intern will get out what they put in, bringing with them energy and enthusiasm.

This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who has ever dreamt of running their own craft empire but does not know where to start. Now is your chance to learn from the experts while supporting this brand new social enterprise.
